Bell Durham Flying High! Handbell Pops Concert
Bell Durham Artistic Director Mitchell Eithun has programmed a spring concert that is sure to keep your feet tapping and create an enjoyable evening for all. With the release of the movie “Wicked,” the music from the original musical is more popular than ever. We will premiere an arrangement of “Defying Gravity” along with performing an arrangement of “For Good” at the concert.
Arrangements of Piedmont blues guitarist Etta Baker’s “Carolina Breakdown” and Irving Berlin’s classic “Always,” which is dedicated to the memory of former Durham residents Fred and Nancy Welfare, will help round out an evening of wonderful music.
The performances will feature soprano Alissa Roca, providing vocals for “Defying Gravity,” “Always” and “Somewhere Over the Rainbow.” Particularly known for her work in contemporary music, Ms. Roca has premiered more than 20 works including several operas, a full-length concert drama and a set of songs of her own texts. She is also the proud founder and artistic director of the Triangle’s Paradox Opera and has worked as a soloist with the Dallas Symphony, The Dallas Winds, Opera on the James, Opera Fayetteville, the Meadows Symphony, the Miami Bach Society, Voices of Change, the University of Texas New Music Ensemble, Duke University and Mallarmé Music.
There is no admission fee and tickets are not required.
We hope you can join us for one or more of our concerts.
